In a green conscious world car companies come under a lot of
abuse. To deal with this they are creating more small and economical cars to
satisfy the consumers need for environmental responsibility. Traditionally small cars have been less profitable for
companies because they have been aimed at the lower end of the market. To deal with the loss of sales in more profitable market segements such as SUV’s Ford is using premium small cars to plug the gap. The new Ford Fiesta that is going to go on sale in America next year is part of a new push
at premium small cars. The new
MINI it can be said was the original premium small car and now Ford want to hit
this segment of the market as well. The new Fiesta can hit $20,000 when fully
equipped almost as much as a well specced ford saloon. Other car companies are
keeping an eye on how the new Fiesta fairs in a cost conscious world to see
whether the MINI can be challenged as the premium small car. This new
strategy from Ford dosnt come without its faults. The Ford Focus can be bought
for around $15,000 and many customers may feel they are losing out when buying a
more expensive car but getting less metal for your money. It will be very
interesting to see how Ford’s new strategy pans out.
